Welcome to Hardykids Early Learning Centre
We are a family owned and operated early childcare centre in the heart of Nelson at 400 Hardy Street East. Our purpose built centre caters for children three months to six years. We are open from 7.30am-5.30pm Monday to Friday, except statutory holidays.
We are proud to annouce we are expanding Hardykids and opening a specialised infant and toddler centre right next door called Hardykids Blossom House Nursery. Blossom House Nursery is a beautifully renovated villa..... a real 'home away from home' for your infant or toddler, with lush gardens, spacious and peaceful play rooms and even a fire place to keep warm on those colder days.
Each child has their own special teacher to care for them and together they will move through the age appropriate rooms as your child develops and grows, so your child has the same consistent relationships for their first two years at preschool! Your child will receive free cloth nappies, and all home-cooked meals for children over 1yr. We are taking enrolments now, so please phone to book a time to visit.
Check out our new video of our 0-3year curriculum on our 'Educational programme' page.
Choosing the right early childhood centre is a huge decision. You need to be certain that your child is cared for in an environment that fits well with your families values and beliefs. Most of all, you want your child to be happy, safe and cared for by teachers who have a genuine interest in your child’s welfare and education. At Hardykids we choose educators that believe early childhood education is a vocation not just a job. For this reason we have chosen ratios greater than the Ministry of Education (MOE) guidelines, which allow those educators to focus on the children. Under 2’s teacher/Child ratios 1:4, over 2’s 1:8.
We believe that a caring early childhood education is one of the greatest gifts we can give a child for a good start in life.
"We were originally attracted to Hardykids by the home cooked lunches provided and the fact the hours are longer than many other day cares around town, for those days when you really need it. But Hardykids has become much more to us than that. We feel like the teachers really know and like our kids and are supportive of all of us, as a family. Our oldest, who is 3, has learned amazing social skills during his time at Hardykids and has an absolute ball along the way. Our youngest (10 months) is just so content in the baby room. Knowing that they are well cared for has made my return to work (both times) that much easier". - Julie Maslin-Caradus
"I cannot speak highly enough about Hardykids. I searched for some time for the right place for my son who has severe allergies to nuts and eggs. Hardykids have accomodated and cared for my son with this situation and I have every confidence in leaving him with them. I know that he is safe and that the staff are fully trained if a situation did arise. The premises are modern and clean and the staff are friendly and caring. The before school programme (Fishes) is amazing. I would recommend any family to look at Hardykids". - Donna Topp

Kia ora My name is Hilary and I am the Curriculum Leader here at Hardykids. I have a Bachelor of Teaching and Learning from Canterbury University and in my role I work across all rooms supporting and mentoring staff and the programme on offer, therefore I am lucky I get to work with all age groups. I am relatively new to Nelson and am originally off a farm in South Canterbury. I have been lucky to have spent several years travelling the world whilst working setting up early childhood centres in several exciting locations (China, Africa, Mexico to name a few). Now I am settled in Nelson, in my spare time I love meeting up with friends and exploring this lovely region as well as trying my hand at 'upcycling' old furniture and doing up my own house!
